Speech and language therapy and young offenders - free lecture!

Nathaniel Swaine is coming to London from Melbourne Australia and will be delivering a free lecture on Mon 12 December 2016 (doors at 5:30pm, presentation starts at 6pm).
The event will take place at Room ELG01 City, University of London Northampton Square London EC1V 0HB and is joint initiative by NAPLIC and City, University of London (Language and Communication Science)
Nathaniel is a Postgraduate Scholar undertaking a language and literacy intervention project for young offenders with communication disorders. He is also the winner of this year’s University of Melbourne Three Minute Thesis Competition, and Runner-Up at the Asia Pacific Final.

Nathaniel conducted empirical single case intervention studies with six young offenders in Victoria, Australia. There were medium-large improvements in the targeted communication skills, many of which were statistically significant. This research provides the most rigorous evidence to date of the effectiveness of one-to-one speech and language therapy for young offenders. These results indicate that, despite significant barriers, there are immense opportunities for effective and responsive SLT services with young offenders.
